Jon Bon Jovi's Startling Rock Star Reveal: 'I'd Rather Be At Home With My Kids' Than Touring
More than 30 years after "Runaway" burned up the Billboard charts, Jon Bon Jovi is still surprising fans with the power of his music. But the rocker would rather stay home with his brood of four kids than spend months away touring to support his latest records.
"Look, I'm not a perfect parent. I've missed a lot of birthdays, I've missed a lot of school plays over the years. But then you also have the benefit of having a lot of time off when I'm not on tour, when I'm not making' a record," revealed the rocker to CBS News. "I'd rather be home with my kids."
He also remarked that while his children Stephanie, Jessie, Jacob and Romeo have had the opportunity to grow up with limitless opportunities open to them due to their father's success, his job as their parent is to lead by example, thus their involvement in his philanthropic endeavors.
"You first of all have to lead by example as a parent. Case in point, we're in this beautiful kitchen, we know how blessed we are. But where we spend most of our time these days when we're here at this house is at our community kitchen, The Soul Kitchen," he explained during a tour of his expansive New Jersey home during an interview with CBS' "Person to Person."
Bon Jovi allowed cameras into the most private areas of his house and revealed that although being a rock star afforded him the ability to live the American dream, his intent is to turn his advantages into a windfall for those less fortunate.
Take for example his grassroots movement, the Jon Bon Jovi Soul Foundation.
At first just a small offshoot of his Philadelphia Soul AFL team, the foundation has grown into a juggernaut of assistance for those in need of housing and food in the greater Philadelphia and New Jersey areas.
"The opening of the JBJ Soul Homes is another example of what I like to call, 'The Power of WE,'" stated Bon Jovi, Chairman of the Jon Bon Jovi Soul Foundation on his official website. "It is a natural continuation of the work that we do."
"Some journalists tell me, 'You're not very rock 'n' roll.' If all they think is that I should throw a TV out the window, then I'm not interested in talking to them. I don't live the cliché, rock star life," he revealed to USA Today.
"Burning Bridges," a fan album, will be released Aug. 21.
